$5,000!!! That's how much the Meor Penn team won in Olami's Global Trivia Tournament.
On March 6, 2020 Olami hosted their Global Trivia Tournament. Over 6600 students from around the world in countries such as Georgia, Australia, and Israel participated to win. Students were given 45 minutes to quickly learn over 100 facts about Passover. After, they participated in a 20 question trivia game where each student received points based on the accuracy of and speed with which they chose their answers. After amazing performances by Yaakov Shwekey and Ishay Ribo, and an inspiring address by former Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, the winners were announced with Penn Meor coming in first place.
From the Penn Meor Team, Cameron Landis, Jesse Fox, Leah Lerner, Alina Mizrahi, Alison Comite, Jay Fishman, David Shasha, Elana Fortson, Jacob Davoudgoleh, Jessica Bachner, Josh Nouriyelian, Lilli Satlof, Mike Montague, Aviv Reif, and Noam Yakoby all competed. About an hour after the competition, the winners were announced and the Penn Meor Team came in first among all English speaking groups. They won $5,000 in extra funding for their campus organization which will most certainly be put to good use to engage new students and current students at Penn. In addition, Jessica Bachner won the Second Place award for the individual leg of the competition which comes with an extra cash prize.
Meor Penn would like to express our gratitude to Olami for bringing together thousands of Jewish students in this time of crisis to engage with each other in a fun and informative game. Moreover, Meor Penn would like to thank each of the students who participated on our team for helping us win first place. Kol Hakavod and Pesach Sameach everyone!
